Facebook

Facebook is an extremely popular social networking website that helps you connect with people all over the world. The founder, Mark Zuckerberg, and a few of his college roomates made Facebook hoping it would only connect people around the campus (Harvard University). It later expanded to other colleges, then to all people over the age of 13. In January 2009 it was rated the most popular social networking site coming even before Myspace.

However Facebook is not all fun and games. It has been in lawsuites, and blocked from Syria, China, and Vietnam. I think it is safe though if you're smart about it and I have never had a problem on it. Cyber Bullying is also a problem Facebook faces today. On March 4, 2009 a teen from Long Island sued the website because of a group posted on it that ridiculed and mocked her. She is seeking 3 million dollars, but Facebook is fighting to keep all their rights. The site now has advanced technology that monitors the site from cyberbullying.

Facebook makes all its earnings from advertisements on the site. Yahoo tried to buy Facebook from the kids for over 1 billion dollars but they refused saying they weren't "looking for money". It is now available off of many smartphones such as Iphones and Blackberries. Also, the actual layout of the site has dramatically changed about 4 times since 2005 and it now provides many more games, applications, and security options.

My opinion is that Facebook is a great site. All my friends have one, even my Mom does! It keeps you in touch with people and if your safe about it, is a great way to make new friends. You could call it the modernized Email for people ranging anywhere from 13-50. If Facebook shut down, I think people would go insane! It distracts people from homework and important things but its worth it. When my friends and I have nothing to do we go on, look at old pictures, comment on other peoples, and see what all of our other friends are doing.

I'm truely addicted to Facebook!
